Somewhere my left brain is whispering…
‘Pam…you should probably clean and organize this studio.’
But my right brain? The creative possibility architect in me?
She’s over here saying… ‘Nah…just keep creating.'
Sometimes creativity looks a little messy.
Sometimes possibility spreads across the whole table.
And sometimes the best ideas happen right in the middle of the chaos.
I’m choosing progress over perfection.
Let’s keep creating. There is possibility spread across the table.
I looked around at the unfinished piles, scattered supplies, painted papers, half-started ideas, and thought…
What started as a simple Wednesday post and a funny reflection about my messy creative space turned into something deeper. As I paused and thought about it more, I realized I was watching my own creative process unfold in real time.
I had started the morning feeling uncertain.
A little discouraged.
Not quite sure what I wanted to write, share, or create.
The “shoulds” were getting louder than the ideas.
But then something shifted.
Not because I forced myself into productivity.
Not because I suddenly became organized.
Not because I had a perfect plan.
The shift happened because I allowed myself to move toward creativity anyway.
I laughed. I reflected. I created.
And slowly….very slowly, clarity started showing up.
That made me realize something important about myself.
My creative process rarely begins with order.
It begins with movement.
Sometimes I need to touch the papers.
Move things around.
Start talking.
Take pictures.
Write messy thoughts.
Laugh at myself a little.
Let ideas bounce around before they make sense.
The creativity often comes first.
The clarity comes later. That is for sure!!!
And maybe that is why the phrase “Possibility Architect” fits me so well.
I started laughing as I thought about it more deeply.
Is an architect right-brained or left-brained?
An architect dreams, imagines, and creates.
But an architect also organizes, plans, structures, and problem solves.
Maybe being a Possibility Architect is not about choosing one side or the other.
Maybe it is whole-brain thinking.
Creativity and structure learning how to work together.
Imagination and reflection meeting in the middle.
Possibility unfolding one messy layer at a time.
As an Occupational Therapist, I think I have spent years quietly supporting this same process in others.
Meaningful participation rarely begins perfectly organized.
Sometimes people need to move first.
Explore first.
Scribble first.
Pause first.
Wander first.
Sometimes confidence shows up after participation begins.
Sometimes clarity comes after the process is already unfolding.
And honestly?
Maybe that is true for many or all of us.
So today, I did not clean the studio first.
I created.
And somewhere in the middle of the mess, I found meaning again.
Maybe possibility does not always arrive in neat rows and organized bins.
Maybe sometimes it spreads itself across the whole table first.
